Gastronomy and wine tourism

If there is something that cannot be missed during your visit to Yecla, it is the fantastic local cuisine and wine tourism. A land whose gastronomic traditions are centred around substantial meals to endure the long days in the countryside, as well as important influences from the surrounding area. There is also a strong wine tradition, as grapes are the main product of the land, which even has its own protected designation of origin classifcation. It is the land of the Monastrell grape! When you come, you must try the typical Yecla lunch: “las tortas fritas”. You can't miss our gazpacho, fried cheese with tomato or our stuffed meatballs either. Our potato empanadas and our typical sweet treat ‘libricos’ are other delicacies for you to try. To round off your visit, you can have a memorable wine tour at one of the wineries associated with the Yecla Wine Route.

If you want to go even further back in time, you can also visit the Hisn Yakka Archaeological Site, built at the end of the 11th century, during the first Taifas period.

Historia de Yecla

If you are interested in Roman ruins, you can visit ‘Los Torrejones’, which are the ruins of a rustic Roman villa dating between the first and sixth centuries. This site is of great importance, as mosaics, bas-reliefs, ceramics, bronzes and many other objects from that period have been found in good condition.

Nature

One of the great wonders of Yecla is the natural enclave in which it is located. The land is surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes such as Monte Arabí, La Rambla de las Tobarrillas, Las Sierras Salinas, Las Sierra de la Magdalena, La Sierra del Carche and many more.
If you ask any local, Monte Arabí will undoubtedly stand out as a special place with a magical feeling. It also houses samples of cave art and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1998. Even paranormal phenomena and UFO sightings have been attributed to this site.
